This course is designed for teachers who are looking to modernize their classrooms with a Learning Management System to support a "Blended Learning" environment or teach an online course. This course will only cover the use of the Canvas LMS.

Expected Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
  • Create a "Visual home Page" or Syllabus landing page.
  • Create two or more modules to contain class content.
  • Create a minimum of one discussion activity to promote asynchronous student dialogue.
  • Create a minimum of two graded assignments with at least one of them collecting student work in Canvas.
  • Create one more quizzes that show an understanding of how to use at least four types of questions.
  • Create a minimum of one "Canvas Outcome" that can also be used in a rubric for one of the graded assignments.

Cloud Classrooms with Chromebooks

Bring the Cloud to your Classroom! This "Bring Your Own Device" workshop is designed to help educators effectively integrate Chromebooks and Cloud tools into a project-based educational framework. Participants gain experience using Chromebooks, evaluating applications (apps) for educational use, and exploring strategies for teaching with this technology.

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
  • Understand how a Chromebook differs from a traditional computer or tablet.
  • Identify and explore student tools for communicating, collaborating, storing and sharing in the cloud.

In this four-day workshop, educators learn how to design community-based mapping projects that engage students, align with core standards and work within existing curricula. Participants learn the fundamentals of project-based learning within the CMaP framework and how to enhance projects with educational technology while experiencing firsthand how effective project-based learning can be. 

Workshop Fee:

        This course helps teachers find and create digital learning objects to support student learning using resources from UEN’s Pioneer Online Library, eMedia, my.uen and more. Participants practice 21st Century skills such as creating mashups, virtual pop-up books, educational interactives and more while exploring strategies for integrating digital media in ways that can increase student engagement and positive learning outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on the ethical use of source material.

        Expected Learning Outcomes
        At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
        • Find effective and appropriate digital learning objects, by evaluating and curating learning objects from multiple sources.
        • Create online characters and stories, by learning to effectively use online media services like Voki and ToonDoo.

        This course focuses on engineering design principles in relationship to application of science concepts. The course will survey the field of engineering and National Research Council's K-12 Framework for Science Education and the new UT SEEd Standards with emphasis on integrating science content with engineering practices. Since this class is meant for teachers it involves several labs. You may need other general house hold materials for these labs. The materials needed for these labs will be listed on the assignment itself. Please note: This class is a professional development course and is NOT offered for SUU credit as it does not count toward an endorsement for secondary science in Utah.
